Priority fields of study for Australia Awards Scholarships

The priority fields of study for Vietnam are listed below. These examples are indicative only and are not exhaustive—each field may encompass additional related disciplines.

  • Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry (i.e. Agricultural economics, Aquacultural/Fisheries, Forestry, Rural Development)
  • Digital transformation (i.e. Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Information Security, Blockchain Technology, Robotics and Automation)
  • Information Technology (i.e. Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Software Engineering, for applicants with disability only)
  • Education (i.e. Education studies/management, Vocational Education and Training, Special Education, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM))
  • Environment, Climate Change and Energy (i.e. Environment studies including Water Resources, Mineral Resources, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Infrastructure and Transport, Sustainable/Renewable Energy Solutions and Innovation, Sustainable Tourism)
  • Governance and Economic Growth (i.e Public Policy Administration, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Economics)
  • Gender EqualityDisability (i.e. Women and Gender Studies, Disability Services, Social policy and social protection)
  • Health (i.e. Health policy and services, Public health, Mental Health)
  • Regional Stability and Human Rights (i.e. International law, Criminology, Maritime security/sustainability, Journalism and media)

Studies in other fields (except Business Administration) will be considered based on merit.

The governments of Australia and Vietnam regularly review these areas of study together and adjust the emphasis of the program.

Applicants should select courses that align with their experience and qualifications or provide a strong justification for courses that represent a shift in career focus or direction. Since the scholarship starts in the first semester 2027, applicants should only choose courses that are available in the first semester of 2027.

Applicants are recommended to use the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) https://cricos.education.gov.au/ for course selection.

Priority fields of study Australia Awards Mekong Australia Partnership

From 2026, additional Australia Awards Scholarships will be available for Vietnam, funded by the Australian Government’s Mekong-Australia Partnership

The Australia Awards Mekong-Australia Partnership (AA-MAP) are offered to the next generation of leaders from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar to undertake Masters level coursework or research in priority fields aligning with MAP’s key thematic areas: water security, climate action, gender equality, disability equity and social inclusion (GEDSI), combatting transnational crime and economic resilience and subregional integration.
